Remnant Long Beach - What is our story?.
The year 2020 has been challenging, but the Lord is creating something beautiful through the ashes.
In March 2020, Refuge Long Beach was forced to shut its doors due to the COVID-19 outbreak. The church went online but didn’t have a place to physically gather.
The heart of the core team at Refuge has always been to reach the unchurched in our Community, especially the homeless in the park.
Steve Gibbs is our Park Pastor. He and his wife Julie have been faithful servants for our ministry. Need to contact someone, text John at 562-773-2293
The Lord Continues to Stir Us Up!
We will continue to pray where God is leading this newly-reformed organization and God has revealed that there is still a need for a group like ours in the park.
We are the core group of those who have served at Refuge Long Beach for many years, some have been around since its inception in Bixby Park. We have begun to continue with our Mission in the park at Recreation Park, Long Beach, CA. We going where our heart is and where God is calling us to do, which is loving, ministering, and bringing a message about Jesus to the park in Long Beach.
We call ourselves ‘Remnant Long Beach’, RLB, which is at the heart of this fresh new work.
Currently, we are not a church in the traditional sense and a missional organization in the park. We do not yet have a 501(c)3, at this time.
*** 2020 was hard on all of us, and The Lord took Jeff in Lat 2020, the man in the wheel chair in this picture. Ron, his friend was a faithful friend, who took care of him and took him everywhere. Thanks Ron.
We are the ‘Remnant’ of Refuge Long Beach.
Since our inception in mid-October, a lot of people have found out about us. They have helped in many ways, both financial and physically jumping in to serve with us.
This has been a completely organic process and we are keeping it simple.
Moving forward, we are looking into setting up a means whereby people can support us financially if their hearts are inclined to help sustain the work.
We have seen God’s hand clearly in this movement and are excited to be a part of Remnant. Our mission at Remnant is to carry on the same doctrine and heart as we have had for the past eight years at Refuge Long Beach.
In August 2019, Refuge Long Beach held Vision Sunday where we discussed our burdens, dreams, the people we want to reach, and the gifts on our team. Remnant is picking up right where Refuge left off.
Some of Our identified Burdens:
Drugs and Alcohol Addiction
Discipleship/mentoring
Loving on homeless and hurting people
Providing a safe place for people to gather
Reach the lost
Reach teens (Jr. High) and young adults
“Cast your burden on the Lord, and He will sustain you” - Psalm 55:22
People We Want to Reach
We all have people in our lives we want to reach with the love of Jesus.
Here are a few people the Lord has put on our hearts:
The homeless and hungry
Those suffering with depression and anxiety.
Lost souls.
"The love of Christ compels us, because we are convinced that One died for all..." - 2 Corinthians 5:14
At Remnant Long Beach, we discovered those in our fellowship with the following gifts:
Those with a compassion and servants heart.
Those with gifts of hospitality and helps.
Those who love to connect with people.
Encouragers.
Evangelists.
Prayer warriors
"For this reason I remind you to fan into flame the Gift of God..." - 2 Timothy 1:6
Our Dreams:
We asked the question, 'If Remnant Long Beach had unlimited resources, what would you like to see the our organization do?
Be a worshiping community.
Reaching out to our community.
Give those around us more love, grace, and hope.
Organize help with hygiene for the homeless, showering, and clothing
"Now to Him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think..." - Ephesians 3:20
We look forward to, and are privileged, to be part of what the Lord is doing in helping to claim those burdens, fulfill those dreams, reach the people, and use our gifts the Lord has given us.
Thank you for your support and prayers. God bless you.
